Nintendo has finally revealed the title and release date for its The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. The next game in the series is called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and will be released on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. The release date and title of the game have been greatly anticipated by fans, with Nintendo delaying the game from 2022 earlier this year. Breath of the Wild fans will be happy that we no longer need to refer to the game as “Breath of the Wild 2″ and that a release date has finally been announced. However, today’s Nintendo Direct wasn’t the “Zelda blowout” that fans had been expecting from leaks. Journalist Jeff Grubb correctly predicted that Nintendo would announce the title of the next Zelda game. Although the other part of that “blowout” was supposed to be remakes of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Nintendo Switch.
In fact, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the only Zelda-related announcement in the entire 45-minute Direct. It goes to show that fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too high based on leaks and rumors.
The trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the first look fans have had at gameplay in the hotly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild. The game has big shoes to fill if it is to live up to the expectations Nintendo has created after the monster success of the Switch’s first Zelda title.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
